This past July celebrated the one-year anniversary of China's carbon emission trading market, which is the world's largest carbon emission trading market. Chinese authorities have approved the country’s first carbon-neutral exchange-traded funds (ETF’s), following concerted efforts by regulators to drive growth in green finance. L’Oreal China, recently set up L'Oreal Healthy Low-Carbon Special Fund to promote low-carbon awareness in beauty products with the Shanghai consumer council, a public welfare organization jointly established by Shanghai Consumer Rights Protection Committee, 6 large enterprises, and 1 public welfare foundation, to build and share a more open, transport, responsible and sustainable Chinese consumer industry ecosystem. Chinese sustainable fashion brand DONSEE10 recently launched the「TWIN FLAME」AW22 collection, which tells a sustainable story about the emotional and spiritual dimensions stripped from the material world, making DONSEE10 the first brand in China to use Ingeo PLA corn fiber fabrics in its products. Chinese-born designer Feng Chen Wang took a different approach to sustainable fashion collections. Her namesake brand Feng Chen Wang debut at Paris Fashion Week, which includes looks made from deadstock, and preview out of her upcoming collaboration with Canada Goose. The past July also witnessed an interesting collaboration between skincare brand Herbeast and ski apparel brand Snowline. The two emerging Chinese brands launched a sustainable skincare capsule collection for traveling, of which the bags are made from the marginal waste of snowsuits, inheriting the characteristics of water-repellent, wear-resistant, and tear-resistant snow suits, and are suitable for outdoor activities.

Plaza 66 Shanghai, owned by Hang Lung Properties, launched the Green Circle campaign with a particular focus on the promotion of a low-carbon lifestyle. Brands including De Beers, Pomellato, Arc'teryx, etc. also joined the campaign to create eco-friendly experiences for their consumers, leading the public to embrace a conscious lifestyle. Also in Shanghai, #PLANTAG, a plant nutrition company from China launched its second edition of the "Earth Cool Up" climate awareness campaign, which partnered with over 50 boutique coffee shops in Shanghai, including peekoo, pin coffee, Lightning coffee, PPT CAFE, W CAFE, etc., to launch over 50 cups of climate change inspired drinks with plant-based alternatives. Shenzhen Power Supply Bureau and China Emissions Exchange jointly launched an applet called Tan Pu Hui system, a mechanism for incentivising and rewarding lower carbon behavior and purchases, and developing a marketplace for low carbon goods and services for use by households. For fashion techonlogy, Hong Kong-based circular fashion brand The R Collective has partnered with materials science company Avery Dennison to launch digital labels, providing a digital experience that immerses consumers in The R Collective’s sustainability story, via Avery Dennison’s innovative digitally-enabled packaging and labeling solutions. Taiwan Textile Federation recently launched Textiles Sourcing Hub for Sustainable Innovation in Taiwan, to strengthen Taiwan's textile industry's position as a sourcing center for major global brands. In interior design, Design China launched the Sustainable Design China Summit, highlighting the latest developments and innovations around sustainable design.

This July, ProVeg became the first global NGO promoting alternative proteins to be given approval for a representative office in China. The food awareness organisation has now expanded its global reach with the opening of a representative office in Shanghai, promoting alternative proteins such as plant-based foods and cultured meat. Another exciting news is that Joes Future Food developed China's first cultivated pork belly, which was unveiled at the Second Cultured Meat New Product Tasting Ceremony during the conference in Nanjing.
