Shanghai Mental Health Centre launched an exhibition on mental health
The Shanghai Mental Health Center has reopened its 'Gallery 600' with a poignant art exhibition titled 'Love, Food, and Life: Eating Disorder Public Education Art Exhibition.' The exhibition, which runs from June 8 to July 21, aims to shed light on the complexities of eating disorders, which are characterized by abnormal eating behaviors and psychological disturbances, often accompanied by significant weight changes and physiological or social dysfunctions. These conditions are among the most lethal in the field of psychiatry.
The artwork displayed is derived from two sources: creations from patients and family members of the SMHC Eating Disorder Treatment Center, and contributions from artists who have experienced or are currently grappling with eating disorders. The exhibition delves into the dichotomy of behaviors seen in anorexia, bulimia, and binge-eating disorder, illustrating the interplay between control and lack of control over food, which is reflective of the broader spectrum of eating disorders.
Believing in the transformative power of art, the Shanghai Mental Health Center hopes that 'Gallery 600' will not only offer aesthetic pleasure but also enhance visitors' understanding of eating disorders. The center aspires to foster empathy and raise health literacy, encouraging society to support those affected by these conditions and their families in their journey toward recovery.
