Prada’s Pradasphere II Exhibition opens in Shanghai

Prada, the esteemed Italian fashion house, proudly inaugurated the highly anticipated Pradasphere II exhibition at the esteemed Start Museum, nestled along the West Bund Cultural Corridor in Shanghai. Curated under the discerning eye of co-creative directors Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, this immersive exhibition unravels an expansive journey, tracing Prada's illustrious heritage from its inception in 1913 to its contemporary prominence.

The Start Museum stands as a testament to meticulous renovation and sustainable design, centered around the restoration of its original historic structure while seamlessly integrating with the surrounding landscape. With a vision to foster a modern cultural hub along the vibrant "West-Bund Culture Corridor," the museum reinvigorates the historical Nanpu railway station's 18-line warehouse layout and preserves its authentic railway and train carriage elements, honoring the site's rich history.

At the exhibition's core lies the captivating 'Magazzino' corridor, showcasing a stunning array of nearly 200 iconic looks from Prada's extensive collections. This corridor acts as a portal to various meticulously designed rooms, each echoing distinct Prada motifs and themes.

'Fratelli Prada', a faithful recreation of the original Fratelli Prada shop in Milan, captures the essence of the brand's legacy, featuring high-resolution videos of historical objects and murals commissioned by Mario Prada in the 1920s.

Themed spaces like 'Prada A Milano' exhibit Albert Watson's evocative photographs alongside Miuccia Prada's early Nylon collection, while the “Gallery” unveils striking artwork by Damien Hirst, complemented by iconic Prada handbags from the archive.

'Re-Nylon' showcases Prada’s commitment to sustainable materials, exploring the structural possibilities of Re-Nylon in a display highlighting the brand's collaboration with National Geographic.

The exhibition transcends boundaries into spaces like 'Green Store', echoing Prada's iconic store displays, and 'Cinema', a continuous visual narrative presenting Prada's collaborations with renowned directors. Reflecting on architectural prowess, 'Architecture' reveals exclusive documents related to major Prada architectural endeavors, while 'Materiality' introduces never-before-exhibited skirts tailored exclusively for the Shanghai Pradasphere.

Building upon the success of its inaugural iteration in 2014, this exhibition is a testament to Prada's legacy and will be open to the public until January 21, 2024, in Shanghai. For more information, please visit: https://www.prada.com/ww/en/pradasphere/events/2023/pradasphere-shanghai.html
