Hermès presents the 'Window Within Window' exhibition in Shanghai

Hermès is delighted to unveil the summer installation 'Window Within Window' by the Chinese artist Song Dong at Maison in Shanghai. Through the intricate interplay of windows and mirrors, the sculptor conjures a realm of reflection - a sanctuary that inspires visitors to perceive the world anew and embark on a journey of self-discovery.

Based in Beijing, Song Dong is a distinguished artist whose body of work encompasses installations, sculptures, performances, videos, and theater. His creations delve into themes of memory, historicity, and the intrinsic value of human expression.

This season’s windows extend his ongoing exploration of repurposed window frames and reflective surfaces, showcasing glass reliefs of horse motifs. Salvaged from urban wasteland, these frames are transformed into kaleidoscopic boxes or winding screens, embellished with multicolored mirrors and glass. Beyond the window display, the facade of the Hermès Maison in Shanghai is graced with colored glass decals, extending creative expression into the public space, integrating with the cityscape through a vibrant play of light and color. From imaginative artistic visions to the crafted installations, Song Dong’s creations resonate with Hermès’ 2024 yearly theme “In The Spirit of the Faubourg”. The Hermès Parisian flagship store, much like a window into beauty and profound creativity, leads visitors on a journey through diverse cultures and eras.
