In a concerted effort to mitigate the environmental impact of denim production and foster circularity within the industry, three key players across the denim supply chain have reaffirmed their joint commitment to producing aniline-free denim apparel based on Archroma's DENISOL® PURE INDIGO 30.

Archroma, a global leader in specialty chemicals for sustainable solutions, has collaborated with innovative Dutch denim brand G-Star RAW and sustainable denim leader Advance Denim since 2019. Together, they aim to manufacture high-quality denim garments in authentic blue hues, free from the aniline impurity typically associated with conventional synthetic indigo production.

Aniline, a byproduct retained in traditional denim manufacturing processes, poses a significant environmental concern as it contaminates water bodies and oceans when discharged as wastewater. Through their collaboration, the three companies seek to eliminate this risk by adopting DENISOL® PURE INDIGO 30, developed by Archroma specifically to address the challenge of aniline.

DENISOL® PURE INDIGO 30 offers a 30% pre-reduced indigo solution, enabling the production of indigo-dyed denim fabrics without aniline impurities throughout the process. This solution not only eliminates aniline from the denim production process but also significantly reduces water consumption for preparation, washing, and wastewater treatment compared to conventional indigo grains.

G-Star RAW, known for challenging industry standards, sees this collaboration as a step towards a more sustainable future. Rebecka Sancho from G-Star RAW highlighted the brand's commitment to sustainability, aiming to make 20% of its collection from Cradle to Cradle Certified® fabrics by 2025.

Advance Denim, dedicated to producing authentic and sustainable denim, expressed pride in collaborating with industry innovators to pioneer cleaner production methods. Amy Wang, Managing Director of Advance Denim, highlighted the company's role as the first mill in China to launch an aniline-free collection in partnership with Archroma.

This joint effort underscores the collective commitment of Archroma, G-Star RAW, and Advance Denim to advancing sustainable denim production while maintaining authenticity and quality. Through initiatives like the adoption of DENISOL® PURE INDIGO 30, these companies are leading the way towards a more environmentally conscious and circular denim industry.
