ZARA released a nylon jacket made entirely from recycled textile waste

BASF and Inditex, two industry leaders, have announced a groundbreaking achievement in textile-to-textile recycling with the introduction of loopamid®. This innovation marks a significant step toward boosting recyclability in the textile industry, providing a circular solution for nylon apparel made entirely from textile waste.

Loopamid is a polyamide 6 (PA6), commonly known as nylon 6, made from 100% textile waste. The cutting-edge technology allows for the recycling of polyamide 6 discarded textiles into new, virgin-quality synthetic fibers and materials. This revolutionary approach supports a circular economy in the fashion industry, enabling textile-to-textile recycling of post-industrial and post-consumer textile waste. The material characteristics of loopamid are identical to those of conventional virgin polyamide.

The collaboration between BASF and Inditex aligns with their ambitious sustainability goals. BASF aims to double its sales generated with solutions for the circular economy by 2030, concentrating on circular feedstocks, new material cycles, and new business models. Inditex targets having 100% of its textile products made exclusively from materials with a smaller environmental footprint by 2030, emphasizing next-generation materials, recycled materials, and organic and regenerative fibers.
