Orta and Archroma Turn Wool Waste Into Next‑Gen Denim Dyes
Archroma and Orta Anadolu are pushing circular innovation deeper into the denim supply chain with the launch of ORTA’s first denim collection dyed using FiberColors®, Archroma’s patented dye technology made with at least 50% pre‑consumer wool waste. The collaboration will take center stage at Kingpins Amsterdam from April 15–16, 2026, marking a milestone in the shift from petroleum‑based dye inputs to bio‑based, traceable alternatives.
The FiberColors® range is produced by upcycling wool fleeces that sheep farmers would otherwise pay to discard — transforming an overlooked waste stream into a high‑value colorant. Archroma reports that the dyes match the performance of conventional sulfur dyes, including dyeing efficiency and fastness, while maintaining comparable water, energy, and waste footprints in production. The range is also GOTS‑approved, supporting brands’ transition to certified, lower‑impact chemistry.
Following successful trials in late 2025, ORTA selected three shades for its debut collection: DIRESUL® FIBER‑TEAK (brown), DIRESUL® FIBER‑SLATE (blue‑grey), and DIRESUL® FIBER‑GRAPHITE (dark grey). The palette aligns with the market’s growing appetite for versatile neutrals while reinforcing ORTA’s long‑standing commitment to pairing aesthetics with responsible innovation.
Founded in 1953 and focused on denim since 1985, ORTA has earned a reputation as an early adopter of next‑generation dye technologies, including BioBlack TX by Nature Coatings and Pili’s bacteria‑based Eco‑Indigo. The mill’s embrace of FiberColors® continues this trajectory.
The ORTA FiberColors® collection will be showcased at the Archroma stand at Kingpins Amsterdam, offering brands and designers a first look at how circular dye chemistry can be scaled into premium denim manufacturing.
