On, a leading fashion brand, has recently unveiled a groundbreaking collection of CO2-based garments, revolutionizing the industry’s approach to sustainability. The new apparel collection featuring polyester made from industrial CO2 emissions in partnership with Chicago-based carbon capture company LanzaTech. With a focus on reducing environmental impact without compromising style, On’s new collection is set to make a significant impact on the fashion and retail landscape.

On explored a few different paths to make ethanol from carbon emissions, and chose to work with LanzaTech after analyzing scalability, time to market, the investment needed, and the total carbon footprint. Right now, it’s only possible to make a material from 20% recycled emissions. That’s because polyester is made with 20% ethylene glycol—the part made from ethanol—and 80% from another material, PTA, that can’t be made from CO2. On is also exploring ways to de-fossilize PTA.

The launch of the CO2-based garment collection underscores On’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and innovation. By utilizing cutting-edge materials and production techniques, the brand is paving the way for a more eco-friendly approach to fashion, setting a new standard for the industry.

On’s new collection not only offers stylish and sustainable options for consumers but also serves as a catalyst for change within the fashion and retail sector. By demonstrating the viability and desirability of eco-friendly fashion, On is inspiring other brands to prioritize sustainability and embrace innovative solutions.
