LVMH Métiers d'Art picks Shu Yonezawa for artistic residency's ninth edition

LVMH Métiers d'Art has officially announced the selection of Shu Yonezawa, a talented young Japanese artist, for the ninth edition of its Résidence Artistique project's residency. This year, the project will take place in Japan, further solidifying LVMH Métiers d'Art's strong ties with the Asian nation, where it established an office in 2022.

The Résidence Artistique initiative aims to nurture artistic practitioners and foster innovation within traditional craftsmanship techniques. Yonezawa's residency, which commences on January 13th and spans six months, will be hosted by Kuroki, a prestigious denim producer celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. Based in Okayama, Kuroki is renowned for its meticulous, vertically integrated manufacturing process, where each step from dyeing to weaving and finishing is meticulously controlled. The company's vintage shuttle looms and Iba region spring water contributes to the denim's unique texture and exceptional quality.

Yonezawa, aged 27, is an emerging artist whose work delves into the convergence of physical and digital reality. Her collaboration with Kuroki presents a unique chance to blend traditional Japanese artisanal techniques with a contemporary artistic perspective. According to LVMH's press release, the artwork created by Yonezawa will be showcased in the second half of 2025 at a venue to be disclosed later.
