In a bold step towards combating climate change within the fashion industry, the H&M Foundation has announced a renewed focus for its Global Change Award (GCA) 2025. This strategic shift aligns with global efforts to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by half each decade.

The GCA 2025 is now accepting innovative solutions specifically designed to address high-emission areas across the textile industry’s value chain. Areas of focus include sustainable materials, responsible production, conscious consumer habits, and other pivotal processes. By championing solutions that address these aspects holistically, the GCA seeks to drive transformative impact across the industry.

Since its inception in 2015, the Global Change Award has supported 46 innovators, distributing a total of 8 million euros alongside expert guidance. With its newly tailored goals, the GCA will continue to support ten winners annually, each receiving €200,000 to foster initiatives that drive industry decarbonization.

To expand its reach and inclusivity, the GCA has introduced a nomination-based entry system and is encouraging a systems-change approach to problem-solving. Innovators are invited to consider the impact of their work across the entire textile value chain, including its influence on communities and environmental sustainability.
