Belmond and Parley for the Oceans announced an innovative partnership aimed at nurturing a network of Ocean Guardians and forging an enduring legacy for ocean preservation through education and active conservation. This alliance reflects Belmond's philosophy that as connectors and curators, the company must first be caretakers of the environments and communities they serve. Maroma, A Belmond Hotel, Riviera Maya, with its established track record in sustainable practices, has been chosen to pilot this transformative initiative.

The collaboration will implement the Parley AIR Strategy (Avoid, Intercept, Redesign) through locally tailored initiatives that build on Maroma's commitment to Mayan culture and its people, who are considered the natural custodians of the local heritage. This partnership will not only protect the coastal and marine ecosystems around Maroma but also serve as a model for future collaborations between Belmond and Parley at other seaside properties, emphasizing stewardship and responsibility.

The joint efforts will encompass a range of actions, from operational changes to ocean education, designed to engender long-term, positive transformations within the community and ecosystem. Key initiatives include educational programs for hotel team members, the establishment of Maroma’s ‘Ocean Guardians’ program, collaboration with coral experts and local scientists on conservation projects, expansion of sea turtle protection areas, and engaging hotel guests in ocean education and exploration programs. This commitment goes beyond eco-tourism, redefining luxury travel with a purpose that is deeply connected to the Belmond ethos and the preservation of our natural world.
