Zootopia at Shanghai Disney Resort inspires the protection of animals and their habitats

Shanghai Disney Resort unveiled on December 20th a captivating Zootopia-themed attraction, welcoming the public, poised to capitalize on the burgeoning post-pandemic enthusiasm for travel and immersive experiences in China. Zootopia, a beloved animated film that debuted in Chinese cinemas in 2016, continues to hold the title of one of the highest-grossing imported animated films in the country's cinematic history.

Notably, Shanghai Disney Resort recently demonstrated its commitment to environmental conservation by contributing RMB 1 million to the China Environment Protection Foundation. The contribution aims to bolster a nationwide essay collection campaign, "My Hometown Animals and Me," and distribute themed activity books to schools in Shanghai, Yunnan province, and Sichuan province. These initiatives aspire to ignite a passion for wildlife preservation among students, inspiring them to actively safeguard animals and their habitats.

The resort's publicly accessible Wishing Star Park, nestled within its premises, has emerged as a vital refuge for migratory birds. With 124 species recorded in 2023, this urban oasis has become a crucial stopover for these feathered travelers.

Beyond its immediate vicinity, Shanghai Disney Resort extends Disney's enduring legacy of environmental advocacy by supporting various conservation projects. Notably, since 2018, the resort has actively backed the Amur tiger conservation project in northeastern China. Among these initiatives, the resort contributes to the annual Northeast Tiger Habitat Patrolman Competition, an anti-poaching endeavor initiated by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to fortify conservation efforts in the region.

The WWF's tiger conservation program, bolstered by contributions from such initiatives, has made significant strides in reviving the tiger population since its inception in 2006.

Under the aegis of the Disney Conservation Fund (DCF), Shanghai Disney Resort and The Walt Disney Company have collaborated with numerous nonprofit ventures in China. These collaborative endeavors, coupled with global DCF grants, have made substantial strides in safeguarding over 1000 species and preserving 315 million acres of natural habitat across 120 countries.

This collective effort underscores Disney's Planet Possible initiative, translating aspirations into tangible actions to usher in a more sustainable future while fostering optimism and instilling a sense of responsibility towards the conservation narrative.

Zootopia, with its immersive experiences steeped in Disney's hallmark storytelling, promises to captivate guests of all ages at Shanghai Disney Resort. Beyond entertainment, the attraction carries a vital message: everyone plays a pivotal role in the enduring story of conservation and environmental stewardship.
