Redressing the Lion Dance Reimagines Tradition Through Sustainable Fashion
Launching ahead of the Lunar New Year, Redressing the Lion Dance is a new exhibition project that reimagines the traditional lion dance through the lens of sustainable fashion and creative reuse. Developed in collaboration with Ha Kwok Cheung, a legendary Hong Kong dragon and lion dance troupe with over 90 years of history, the project brings together heritage craftsmanship with contemporary design innovation.
Two Hong Kong–based sustainable designers — Pearl Leung of Pearl Leung Style and Eric Wong of Absurd Laboratory — have transformed unwearable garments collected through Redress’s Clothing Collection Programme into striking, upcycled lion dance costumes. The exhibition will be presented at Mondrian Hong Kong from 8–26 January 2026, followed by a second showcase at the Hong Kong Design Institute from 29 January to 12 February 2026. Alongside the exhibition, Redress and Mondrian Hong Kong will also launch a Lunar New Year clothing collection initiative, encouraging the public to donate clothing in good condition to support circular fashion and fund Redress’s charitable work.
