LVMH unveils the winners of the 2024 LIFE 360 in Stores Awards
LVMH has announced the winners of the 2024 LIFE 360 in Stores Awards, an internal competition aimed at recognizing environmental excellence across the Group's retail spaces. Under the leadership of Antoine Arnault, LVMH Image & Environment, and Hélène Valade, LVMH Environmental Development Director, the awards ceremony brought together industry leaders, experts, and employees to share the latest advancements in sustainability, showcasing initiatives designed to accelerate the ecological transition across LVMH's retail operations.
The LIFE 360 in Stores Awards, held every two years, is open to all LVMH Maisons and evaluates projects across 50 specific environmental criteria. TERAO, an independent external auditor, ensures the evaluation process is transparent and rigorous. This year’s awards highlighted the ongoing efforts of LVMH’s Maisons to embrace sustainability, enhance energy efficiency, and improve their environmental footprint in retail spaces.
Award Winners:
Best Store for the Environment (Store of the Year): Parfums Christian Dior K11, Hong Kong (SAR China) was awarded the top honor for achieving the highest score across all eight categories. The store's exceptional environmental strategies, from energy management to sustainable design, earned it this prestigious recognition.
Collaborative Governance: Bulgari Shenyang, China, was honored for its commitment to integrating environmental objectives into project management. The store’s strategy involved close collaboration with stakeholders to ensure sustainable outcomes throughout its development.
Smart Building Facade: Bulgari via Monte Napoleone, Milan, Italy, received accolades for its innovative building design, which balances climate resilience with optimal natural lighting. This architectural approach promotes energy efficiency while maintaining an inviting atmosphere for visitors.
Energy Synergy: CELINE, Seoul, South Korea, was celebrated for its outstanding energy management practices aimed at reducing CO2 emissions. The store's energy efficiency measures showcase the brand’s dedication to reducing its carbon footprint.
Water Stewardship: Louis Vuitton, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was recognized for its sustainable water management practices. The store’s efforts focus on both technical solutions and retail space operations to minimize water consumption.
Lighting the Way: Parfums Christian Dior K11, Hong Kong (SAR China), also won recognition for its eco-responsible lighting design. By optimizing lighting, which typically accounts for half the store’s energy consumption, the store significantly reduced its environmental impact.
The Air We Share: CELINE, Seoul, South Korea, was recognized for its initiatives aimed at improving indoor air quality. Concrete measures to ensure a healthy environment for both employees and customers contributed to the store’s award.
Sustainable By Design: Le Bon Marché, Espace Bijoux, Paris, France, was honored for its use of sustainable materials and a design that facilitates recycling at the end of the store’s lifecycle. The store’s commitment to sourcing FSC-certified wood and reusing furniture demonstrates its dedication to sustainable interior architecture.
Smart Maintenance: Louis Vuitton, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was awarded for its efforts to enhance environmental performance throughout the store lifecycle, focusing on sustainable maintenance practices that reduce waste and improve efficiency.
New Categories:
For the 2024 edition, LVMH introduced four new award categories, recognizing innovation in employee well-being, sustainable training, pop-up stores, and visual merchandising:
Shared Well-Being: Sephora France received recognition for its focus on employee well-being, integrating sustainable design not only in the retail space but also in the back-office arrangements that optimize work environments for staff.
Learning to Impact: Le Bon Marché was awarded for its comprehensive employee training on environmental issues. This initiative is a core component of LVMH’s strategy, with measurable outcomes in employee engagement and training diversity.
Pop-Ups with Purpose: CELINE, Wuxi, China, was recognized for its sustainable approach to pop-up stores, incorporating the reuse and recycling of structures and furniture. This strategy ensures that temporary installations align with the brand’s long-term environmental goals.
Windows in Transparency: Jointly awarded to Louis Vuitton 5 Canton Road, Hong Kong, China, and Bulgari Via Monte Napoleone, Milan, Italy, these stores were praised for their eco-design in visual merchandising (VM). The use of VM in window displays presents a key challenge in retail sustainability, and this year’s award recognized the two boutiques for their efforts to reduce the environmental impact of their displays.
