Lola Bret’s first solo exhibition in Asia opens at ICICLE Cultural Space, Shanghai

As summer arrives, ICICLE Cultural Space in Shanghai unveils Our Invisible Ties, the first solo exhibition in Asia by Lola Bret, a French multidisciplinary artist whose work is deeply rooted in Japanese aesthetics and a profound reverence for the natural world.

Raised in Tokyo and now based in France’s Arcachon Bay, Lola’s artistry—spanning calligraphy, music, theatre, and painting—draws from her lifelong connection to nature. Her delicate compositions, crafted with ink, acrylic, charcoal, and seasonally gathered organic materials, explore kizuna (絆), the subtle emotional bonds that interconnect all living beings. Her ethereal universe invites viewers into a world where flora, fauna, and human spirit coexist in poetic harmony.

To celebrate the opening and France’s annual Fête de la Musique, ICICLE hosted a summer jazz concert in its garden space, featuring the Swingman Jazz Quartet. The quartet blended classic and improvised melodies as a tribute to Lola’s art, where every painting is an inner dance between nature and sensation.

After her 2024 debut in Arcachon, Our Invisible Ties marks Lola’s return to Asia with new works that reflect both her deep introspection and playful wonder. Her paintings—silent yet vibrant—echo with the rhythm of life, memory, and the interconnected threads that bind us all.
