L’Occitane unveils sustainability concept store in Hainan
Partnering with China Duty Free Group (CDFG),L’Occitane Travel Retail Asia-Pacific has launched its first sustainability concept store at Sanya International Duty-Free Shopping Complex in Haitang Bay, China. The brand is underlining its commitment to sustainability with an eco-designed store constructed from 84% eco-certified materials in line with the brand’s guiding principle of Rethink, Recycle, Reduce.
The store has implemented a sustainable strategy from concept to construction with an emphasis on end-of-life recycling and upcycling. It features eco-friendly materials without the use of plastic. Lightweight bamboo replaces pine for fixtures, and fast-growing, naturally renewable bamboo absorbs more carbon dioxide, thereby slowing climate change. It also reduces its carbon footprint by using electric delivery trucks for transportation.
The store also features a chandelier made from recycled L'Occitane Immortelle Reset Triphase Essence glass bottles. The resin tabletops are also made from upcycled glass, and the floors are upcycled from reclaimed wood from an old Chinese wooden boat. In order to promote the concept of circular economy, the new store reuses the spotlights of the old store.
L'Occitane Travel Retail is the first beauty brand to cooperate with China Duty Free Group and Tairui Environmental Protection to implement a bottle return program at the Sanya International Duty Free Shopping Center in Haitang Bay. The purpose of the program is to encourage all customers, including travelers, to regularly recycle their purchases. Furthermore, The L’Occitane Group has pledged that by 2025, 100% of its plastic bottles will be manufactured from 100% recycled waste.
