L'Occitane China launches "Million Tree Plan" reforestation initiative for the third consecutive year

L'Occitane Group, in partnership with the non-profit organization Shanghai Roots & Shoots, has once again embarked on its "Million Tree Plan" reforestation initiative at the Baijitan Nature Reserve in Ningxia. This year’s effort aims to combat desertification, support long-term ecological restoration, and strengthen the green barrier in the region, contributing to the recovery of Ningxia's ecosystem.

L'Occitane China began its partnership with Roots & Shoots in September 2022, formally joining the "Million Tree Plan." Since then, L'Occitane China has been actively involved in tree planting and desertification control efforts in the Baijitan Nature Reserve in Lingwu City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. To date, L'Occitane Group has planted 110,000 shrubs and committed to planting a total of 1 million shrubs over the coming years as part of the "Million Tree Plan."

This year, the "Million Tree Plan" aims to plant 200,000 shrubs. L'Occitane volunteers from the front lines, including Wang Lu, a counter manager at Urumqi Meimei Department Store, participated in the project by learning about the history of sand control at Baijitan, gaining knowledge on combating desertification, and experiencing the natural energy of the desert. They actively engaged in creating straw checkerboard barriers and planting shrubs, hoping their efforts would inspire public environmental awareness.

For nearly 50 years, L'Occitane Group has upheld its commitment to the planet. From fiscal years 2022 to 2024, L'Occitane has actively responded to climate challenges and consistently sought more sustainable packaging solutions. By empowering the communities it invests in, protecting biodiversity, reducing resource waste, and mitigating climate change, the group strives to bring about positive change. In August 2023, L'Occitane Group achieved B Corporation™ certification, recognizing its commitment to social and environmental performance.

In Southern France, L'Occitane continues to contribute to preserving the ecological environment of the Provence region. Collaborating with local plantations, L'Occitane has launched several initiatives, including the "Sweet Almond Conservation Plan" and the "Organic Lavender Cultivation Plan," aimed at rescuing endangered sweet almond trees. By 2025, L'Occitane plans to plant approximately 900,000 sweet almond trees in Southern France, protecting native plants and enhancing the local ecosystem.
