Hermès in the Making Brings Sustainable Craftsmanship to Shanghai

From 17th to 24th May 2026, Hermès invites visitors to North Square, Shanghai Exhibition Center to explore Hermès in the Making, an immersive exhibition celebrating the house’s enduring commitment to sustainable craftsmanship. The showcase highlights how objects are designed to last, be repaired, and passed down through generations, reflecting the brand’s philosophy of durability and care. Visitors can experience live demonstrations, interactive workshops, and films featuring artisans from nearly ten métiers, including leatherworking, silk engraving, glove-making, porcelain painting, gemstone setting, and watchmaking.

The exhibition demonstrates Hermès’ dedication to preserving and evolving centuries-old savoir-faire. From hand-stitching iconic Kelly bags with the signature saddle stitch to printing silk scarves with up to 48 colours, each object embodies meticulous skill, time-honoured techniques, and high-quality materials. Master artisans also reveal repair and restoration practices that allow Hermès products to remain in use for decades, ensuring sustainability through longevity. Hermès in the Making offers an intimate glimpse into a culture of craftsmanship where heritage, innovation, and environmental responsibility converge.
