De Beers launched the Miao Embroidery project in Shanghai
Adhering to the commitment to "Creating and Keeping Eternity", De Beers officially launched the Miao Embroidery project in Shanghai on August 9, 2022. This project aims to support the Miao women to improve their skills, enhance their self-confidence, promote the inheritance and development of Miao embroidery culture, and pay tribute to this splendid intangible cultural heritage through this far-reaching plan.
Miao embroidery has a long history and a wide variety of exquisite styles. As a traditional folk embroidery technique, Miao embroidery is the crystallization of the diligence and wisdom of Miao women, and was included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage in 2006. The Miao people have only language but no written characters. For thousands of years, they have used embroidery and ancient songs to record their cultural history and social changes. Miao embroidery is an important carrier of the historical and cultural heritage of the Miao nationality, and it is also an external symbol of ethnic identity and differentiation between different branches. It is called "the history book worn on the body".
De Beers takes practical actions to help the public better understand the meaning and core of Miao embroidery, an intangible cultural heritage, supports Miao women to enhance their awareness and ability to undertake orders, and promotes the inheritance and development of Miao embroidery.
