ba&sh x Marangoni sustainable art exhibition opens at Jing'an Kerry Centre
When female empowerment meets sustainable art, fashion embarks on a new chapter. On March 14, 2025, French fashion brand ba&sh and Italy’s renowned Istituto Marangoni jointly launched the "Sustainable Art Regeneration Exhibition" at Jing An Kerry Centre in Shanghai. This pioneering experiment in sustainability showcases the unique perspectives and creative ingenuity of eight Marangoni students, breathing new life into ba&sh’s pre-loved garments.
As a leader in industry innovation and social responsibility, ba&sh remains steadfast in its commitment to progress, celebrating each step forward, no matter how big or small, as long as it brings the brand closer to its environmental and social responsibility goals. This exhibition, which uses ba&sh’s old garments as a creative medium, is a groundbreaking fusion of art, sustainability, and female empowerment. It exemplifies ba&sh’s dedication to sustainable fashion and continuous efforts to drive social responsibility and environmental stewardship.
Since its inception, ba&sh has been devoted to crafting the "ideal wardrobe" for women, empowering them with fashion that exudes confidence and comfort. The brand’s name itself—ba&sh—symbolizes not just the vision of its two founders but also a broader connection to a diverse and symbiotic world. In June 2024, ba&sh officially earned B Corp certification, further solidifying its commitment to future generations and demonstrating a deep-seated concern for both the environment and society.
Now, turning its focus to the pressing global issue of sustainability, ba&sh seeks to transform wardrobes into starting points for sustainable art and deeper female empowerment. By collaborating with one of the world’s leading fashion institutions, Istituto Marangoni, ba&sh is deconstructing conventional fashion through innovative techniques, redefining the intersection of sustainability and female strength.
At the exhibition, massive panels of recyclable paperboard form an intriguing interplay of light and shadow. These structures not only serve as display surfaces for the artworks but also redefine spatial aesthetics, transforming the venue into an immersive fashion experience. Hundreds of repurposed fabric pieces—including soft silks, structured denim, and delicate lace—are intricately woven into ba&sh’s iconic patterns, making a powerful statement on sustainability. This exhibition is not just a visual spectacle but also an invitation for deep reflection on fashion’s sustainable future.
Through the hands of eight talented Marangoni students, ba&sh’s old garments are transformed into new narratives and reborn with fresh meaning. Their works explore the intricate relationships between women’s everyday lives and environmental consciousness, striking a harmonious balance between sustainability and contemporary fashion. The designs delve into female narratives and deconstruct societal issues from multiple perspectives—silhouettes challenge gender binaries, regenerated denim champions the spirit of non-conformity, and pleated corsetry crafts a symbolic armor of resilience.
These avant-garde designs transcend traditional boundaries, redefining old textiles as both artistic expressions and wearable statements. At the exhibition, Marangoni students repurpose fabric remnants into meticulously crafted gifts, each infused with the ethos of sustainability. These upcycled creations not only embody eco-conscious values but also serve as tangible reminders of the ongoing dialogue between fashion and a sustainable future.
