Zalando Launches Kidswear Resale in 14 Markets to Boost Circular Fashion

Zalando is deepening its commitment to circular fashion with the expansion of its resale model into kidswear, marking a significant step in the platform’s broader resource‑optimization strategy. The European e‑commerce giant announced that customers in 14 markets—including Spain, Germany, France and the Nordics—can now buy and sell pre‑loved children’s clothing through its dedicated “Second‑hand” section.

The move builds on Zalando’s second‑hand vertical launched in 2020, a cornerstone of the company’s ambition to scale circular business models and reduce the environmental footprint of fashion consumption. By adding kidswear—a category known for rapid turnover and short garment lifecycles—Zalando positions itself to capture a high‑impact opportunity for textile reuse.

The new offering operates under a consumer‑to‑business‑to‑consumer (C2B2C) model. Parents can sell outgrown children’s clothing directly to Zalando, where items undergo quality checks to ensure they are “in perfect condition or lightly used.” Sellers receive marketplace credits, while the verified garments are listed for resale in the kidswear section.

As Europe’s resale market continues to grow, Zalando’s expansion signals a broader shift: second‑hand is no longer a niche alternative but an increasingly integrated part of how families shop—and how fashion platforms are rethinking their role in a more circular economy.
