Visa launches circular fashion initiative for young creators
As the fashion industry faces a mounting waste crisis, with global textile waste projected to reach 150 million tons by 2030, circular business models such as recommerce and reuse offer scalable, economically viable alternatives to linear production systems. To support the transition to circular systems, Visa is advancing its commitment to more sustainable practices and small business empowerment with the launch of Visa Young Creators: Recycle the Runway. The initiative aims to support the next wave of creative entrepreneurs paving the way to a more regenerative fashion economy.
Part of Visa’s broader Young Creators initiative, Recycle the Runway is designed to empower early-stage fashion entrepreneurs who are reimagining the future of fashion through more sustainable, recommerce-driven business models. The initiative offers financial support, expert mentorship sessions, and industry recognition to designers who embrace at least one of the six “R’s” of circular fashion: repair, resale, return, redistribution, rental, or refill. The initiative’s ambition is to make circular fashion more desirable and accessible, accelerating the adoption of more sustainable practices with the ambition to contribute to economic growth while reducing environmental impact.
Leveraging its global network and strategic partnerships, including a collaboration with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Visa is helping to create pathways for emerging designers to build viable, circular businesses. Selected finalists will receive funding, access to mentorship from industry experts during the competition, and the opportunity to present their work at a high-profile runway showcase in Central London on 22 May 2025. Artist and influencer Sophie Tea will join the judging panel, with the full line-up to be revealed on Earth Day.
