Trane Technologies launches BrainBox AI Lab to pioneer sustainable energy management in buildings
Trane Technologies, a global climate innovator, today announced the launch of the BrainBox AI Lab, a new initiative dedicated to advancing artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for energy management in buildings and refrigerated transport. The lab is set to accelerate the development of intelligent, efficient, and sustainable HVAC technologies.
The new BrainBox AI Lab will serve as a central hub for research, collaboration, and real-world testing. It aims to develop a new generation of autonomous control systems, predictive models, and algorithms designed to reduce energy consumption and emissions. The lab will also explore cutting-edge fields, such as agentic AI and physics-informed neural networks, to facilitate a comprehensive digital transformation of the built environment.
The launch of the lab comes after Trane Technologies acquire BrainBox AI in January 2025, following a two-year collaboration. The acquisition integrated BrainBox AI’s leading autonomous HVAC controls and generative AI building technologies into Trane Technologies’ portfolio, meeting the fast-growing demand for sustainable building solutions.
Guiding the work of the multidisciplinary team of software engineers, data scientists, and AI researchers will be four key principles:
Product Creation: Transforming groundbreaking ideas into practical, real-world applications.
Research & Development: Collaborating with leading researchers and universities to push the boundaries of AI in energy management.
Ethics & Guardrails: Embedding ethical and responsible AI principles into all stages of solution design and deployment.
Sustainability: Creating AI technologies that actively support energy optimization and the reduction of global carbon emissions, in line with Trane Technologies’ 2030 Sustainability Commitments.
