Fashion for Good Launches First Open-Source Blueprint to Unlock Near-Net-Zero Textile Manufacturing
Fashion for Good has unveiled the industry’s first open-source blueprint designed to help textile manufacturers chart a viable path toward near-net-zero production—addressing one of fashion’s most carbon-intensive stages. Developed under the Future Forward Factory project, the blueprint provides Tier 2 manufacturers in India with five practical, financially viable decarbonisation pathways capable of reducing carbon emissions by up to 93%, alongside significant reductions in water and electricity use.
Targeting textile dyeing, treatment, and finishing processes—long recognized as major emissions hotspots—the blueprint offers the most comprehensive, actionable “how-to” guide the industry has seen. Built with support from catalytic funders including Laudes Foundation and H&M Foundation, and technical partners such as Apparel Impact Institute, Bluwin, Wazir Advisors, and Grant Thornton Bharat, the tool combines energy interventions, disruptive process innovations, best-available technologies, and detailed financial modelling. Each pathway outlines payback periods, internal rates of return, net present value calculations, and relevant policy incentives to help manufacturers confidently evaluate long-term investments.
Katrin Ley, Managing Director of Fashion for Good, notes that the blueprint “removes the guesswork” by giving manufacturers free access to validated data and a clearly defined implementation roadmap. The blueprint will also be tested in real-world conditions as Fashion for Good partners with Arvind Mills to explore developing the first operational Future Forward Factory in India—serving as a proof of concept for future blueprints across South Asia and Latin America.
Fashion for Good will support a selected group of manufacturers in India to retrofit facilities using the blueprint, with technical and financial guidance from Apparel Impact Institute. Industry stakeholders are invited to join a public webinar on 8 December 2025 for a walkthrough of the blueprint’s structure and practical implementation steps.
