Vanke Foundation launches "Zero-Waste Living Guide" to inspire sustainable action
To promote the concept of zero waste, the Vanke Foundation, in collaboration with ZeroMonger and Shenzhen One Foundation, has organized the national "Zero Waste Day" campaign since 2018. Originally held on the third Saturday of August, the event will align with the international Zero Waste Day on March 30 starting in 2024.
This year, the Vanke Foundation partnered with BottleDream to release the Zero Waste Power Report, a follow-up to their 2021 study on Generation Z's zero-waste attitudes and behaviors. The new report explores the evolution of zero-waste practices among young people and highlights innovative efforts by local advocates. It also features global case studies to inspire actionable and creative solutions for those eager to embrace sustainable living.
To engage the public, the foundation enlisted celebrities like Hu Ge, Chen Long, Han Li Li, and Zhang Yunlong to champion the cause. Focusing on composting—a topic often overlooked by everyday citizens—the campaign spotlighted coffee grounds as a starting point. Collaborations with partners such as the Palace Museum in Beijing, Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo, and Shenzhen Meisha Carbon-Neutral Community showcased the "journey of coffee grounds" from waste to resource, offering hands-on experiences for participants.
The Vanke Foundation aims to make sustainability accessible and enjoyable, transforming complex ideas into simple, actionable steps. Looking ahead, the organization pledges to continue supporting research, policy advocacy, and community initiatives centered around zero waste, further advancing its vision of sustainable communities.
