UNIQLO Launches RE.UNIQLO Garment Collection Service in Mainland China to Advance Circular Fashion

UNIQLO has launched its RE.UNIQLO garment collection service in Mainland China, marking a new step in the brand’s efforts to promote circular fashion and reduce textile waste. Introduced on World Environment Day, the pilot program is available at four flagship stores in Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Changsha, where customers can return unwanted garments from Fast Retailing brands including UNIQLO, GU, and Theory for recycling and repurposing.

The initiative is being implemented in partnership with Chinese textile recycling platform FeimaYi, which will manage the collection and sorting of garments by material type, including cotton, polyester, nylon, and blended fibers. Following sorting, UNIQLO will explore pathways for fiber-to-fiber recycling and other forms of material recovery, helping transform post-consumer textiles into new resources. Garments unsuitable for fiber recycling may be repurposed into products such as insulation materials, agricultural blankets, or cleaning cloths.

The launch expands the RE.UNIQLO program, first introduced globally in 2020 to extend the life of clothing through repair, remake, reuse, and recycling. In China, the collection service complements the company’s existing RE.UNIQLO STUDIO repair and customization workshops, creating a more comprehensive circular system that supports garments throughout their entire lifecycle.

As one of UNIQLO’s most important markets and home to a world-leading textile manufacturing ecosystem, China plays a key role in the company’s exploration of post-consumer textile recycling solutions. By encouraging customers to return unwanted clothing rather than discard it, UNIQLO aims to increase collection volumes, support innovation in fiber recycling, and contribute to the development of a more circular apparel industry.
