Uniqlo Expands RE.UNIQLO Garment Take-Back Service Nationwide in China

Uniqlo has expanded its RE.UNIQLO garment collection service to stores across mainland China, following its initial launch at four stores in Shanghai, Changsha and Guangzhou on World Environment Day in June. The brand has also introduced the “Where Do Old Clothes Go?” campaign and partnered with the Feimayi platform to extend collection channels online.

Recovered garments are sorted by material—including cotton, polyester, nylon and blends—and directed towards different reuse and recycling applications such as insulation materials, agricultural thermal blankets and cleaning cloths, while Uniqlo continues to explore fibre-to-fibre recycling.

The expansion also strengthens the front-end of the circular system through RE.UNIQLO STUDIO, where customers can repair damaged garments or customise older pieces with embroidery. Beijing’s Sanlitun flagship, the programme’s fifth location in China, offers locally inspired motifs including Peking Opera masks, red lanterns and kites. Building on the RE.UNIQLO programme launched in 2020, the latest rollout reflects Uniqlo’s broader focus on keeping clothing in use for longer while developing pathways for garments beyond their first life.
