THE BEAST opens the first Chinese Workshop Store, unveiling the charm of intangible cultural heritage
Recently, THE BEAST officially unveiled its first Chinese Workshop Store in Xintiandi. Inspired by the concept of a “Moonlight Treasure Box,” the store entrance features cascading pearl curtains, jade-like trees, phoenix-patterned windows, and blooming crabapples, evoking a poetic and elegant ambiance. Inside, the space is arranged according to the four seasons—spring, summer, autumn, and winter—showcasing THE BEAST’s Chinese Workshop fragrance collection. The entrance corridor is adorned with mother-of-pearl inlaid display cabinets, reminiscent of late Qing Dynasty Chinese craftsmanship.
Spanning two floors, the store seamlessly blends traditional Chinese craftsmanship with contemporary design. The first floor highlights artisanal heritage through an exclusive collection featuring Quanzhou pearl embroidery, Yongkang pewter engraving, Chaozhou wood carving, glasswork, and Song brocade weaving. Among them, THE BEAST 2025 Early Spring Collection’s Quanzhou Pearl Embroidered Sachet stands out as a masterpiece. This collection incorporates the most intricate embroidery techniques, meticulously handcrafted by Chen Keren, a Quanzhou pearl embroidery master and heir to this intangible cultural heritage. Chen uses heirloom gold-thread embroidery and rare materials to create this exquisite scented sachet.
The second floor is dedicated to THE BEAST’s homewear collection, where visitors step into a space reminiscent of an opulent lady’s boudoir, adorned with gilded murals and flowing silk robes. The collection includes a Song Brocade Homewear Series, crafted from premium mulberry silk dyed in rich, subtle hues and woven using the centuries-old Song Brocade technique, exuding timeless elegance.
Through the creation of this uniquely modern Chinese-inspired flagship, THE BEAST brings traditional Chinese craftsmanship to life, merging floral opulence with heritage artistry. By celebrating China’s rich artisanal legacy, the brand embarks on a journey to explore the beauty of traditional handcrafts, seamlessly intertwining contemporary Chinese fragrance culture with intangible heritage craftsmanship, and narrating the enduring stories of artisanal mastery.
