Maison Margiela launched upcycled new year specials New Beginnings

Maison Margiela recently joined forces with emerging creative artists in China, taking the theme of "New Beginnings," incorporating the brand's "Recicla" philosophy of repurposing old things. Interior designer Paul Hsu and photographer Ma Hailun were invited to create "Old Items", a short film for the Chinese New Year, telling the story of designer Jovana and Zhang Lei's family New Year's celebration.

Jovana and Zhang Lei repaired their five most special chairs that they collected over the past year using materials they found in libraries. When the new material covered the parts that were eroded by time, it marked the moment of "bidding farewell to the past and looking into the future." Chairs hold special significance for Chinese families as they bear witness to the traces left by the passing of time and also symbolize the "reunions" of a family. By promoting the idea of valuing "old Items" and upcycling, the artists are creating a "new life" to embrace the fresh new year.
