Kering Group and the National Museum of China commemorate the return of Yuanmingyuan treasures

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, Kering Group, in partnership with the National Museum of China, hosted a special commemorative event for the return of the rat and rabbit bronze heads, two of the 12 zodiac animal sculptures from the Beijing's Old Summer Palace. This significant cultural milestone further emphasizes the bond between the two nations, built on a shared commitment to safeguarding and promoting cultural heritage.

The event was a poignant reminder of the historical significance of the zodiac animal sculptures, which were once looted and are now symbolically reunited. François-Henri Pinault's presence at the ceremony underscored Kering's dedication to cultural philanthropy and the importance of making art accessible to the public. The documentary "The Long Journey Home," premiered during the event, provides a compelling narrative of the journey these artifacts undertook to return home, reflecting the deep respect for cultural property and the collaborative spirit between China and France.

This collaboration is more than a gesture of goodwill; it represents a substantial step forward in cultural diplomacy and sustainable development within the cultural sector. The initiative stands as an example of how private and public entities can unite to advocate for the preservation of historical treasures. It also opens a dialogue on the role of cultural diplomacy in international relations and the imperative to maintain our cultural artifacts as conduits of understanding and appreciation for the rich diversity of human history. The efforts of Kering Group and the National Museum of China exemplify the capacity of cultural engagement to connect nations and inspire a legacy that transcends generations.
