Chinese-born designer Feng Chen Wang navigates perfectionism and acceptance in uncertainty with her latest Fall/Winter 2022 collection. Finding solace in the never-ending act of improvement, Wang imbues each garment with a sense of fluidity. Inspired by ancient Chinese painting scrolls and Renaissance polyptych paintings, the series of images mimic a flowing, continuous scroll. A starry pattern inspired by Fujian lacquerware found in Wang’s hometown covers jackets, shirts, and shorts for an enchanting, psychedelic effect. Other pieces are carefully hand-dyed with black and yellow ochre, tapping into the season’s color palette.
