China Environmental Protection Foundation (CEPF) x Towards Zero Waste

Introduction of the campaign / CEPF

From October 28th to November 13th, initiated by the China Environmental Protection Foundation (CEPF) and co-organised by Zhongbang Public Welfare and GREENEXT, a city-wide environmental awareness campaign "Towards Zero Waste" has now landed in The InLet, a new trendy landmark in Shanghai! Founded in 1993, China Environmental Protection Foundation (CEPF) is the first nonprofit organization dedicated to environmental protection in China, and an NGO in Special Consultative Status with the UN ECOSOC.

What happened?

"Towards Zero Waste" presented innovative and environmentally friendly technologies, materials and works through three sections: kick-off ceremony, sustainable exhibition and eco workshops. The campaign focused on the dimensions of food, accommodation, clothing, and transportation in our daily lives, concerned on the topics of recycling, upcycling, low-carbon, waste recycling, etc., and invited the public to experience and create in person. This campaign was dedicated to stimulating public awareness of environmental protection, and promoting "Towards Zero Waste" lifestyles.

During the campaign, the CEPF brought a selection of sustainable lifestyle exhibitions in The In Let, together with many institutions and companies including GREENEXT, Green Connections, Zhongbang Public Welfare, PEELSPHERE, KAFFTEC, P.E.T., Meet Knits, YI Design, Tomato art Lab, #CycSatelittes By LittleDesignSolution to recycle different waste materials.

Apart from the exhibition, the public can also participate in a series of eco workshops, including the creative reconstruction of coffee grounds hosted by KAFFTEC, and the upcycling of used T-shirts designed by #CycSatelittes By LittleDesignSolution.

It is worth mentioning that the exhibition adopts the portable display booth set-up "TRUNK ZERO" which is recycled from waste. The "TRUNK ZERO" was designed by Jae Li, a designer specializing in design sustainability research. Jae locally sourced eco-friendly broken wood for up-cycling, as well as recycled leather in Shanghai. With the concept of "Zero Waste", Jae's design allows people to consider a sustainable lifestyle in the future.

Offline Activities

Exhibition

The exhibition focused on the common waste sources in our daily life such as textile waste, food waste, marine waste, and domestic waste. The display materials cross the fields of fashion and lifestyle to present a sustainable future to the public.

For instance, P.E.T. Plastic Ecological Transformation is a B2B solution that designs and manufactures products made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. P.E.T. brought their latest collections to Towards Zero Waste Exhibition.

The exhibition also brought PEELSPHERE, which is a material innovation company founded by a team of talented designers, engineers, and entrepreneurs passionate about sustainability and the planet's future. They come together for a common goal of solving the material waste problem by engineering the future generation of bio-materials.

Workshops

By turning waste into treasure, the workshop encourages everyone to try a more environmentally friendly lifestyle, so that unwanted items will finally return to our life with new pieces!

KAFFTEC hosted the creative reconstruction of coffee grounds workshop, by turning old grounds into all-natural handmade soaps. After the workshop, each participant harvested his own recycled coffee soap. Handmade coffee soap is a treat for the skin and nose, and it’s great for all skin types.

Little Design Solutions hosted the upcycling of used T-shirts in a fun DIY workshop. Participants quickly upcycled an unwanted t-shirt into their own designs.

Online Activities

As a co-organizer of the event, GREENEXT establishes a Sustainable Community on RED, one of the most popular social media platforms in China. In the community, people can share their recommendations for recycled goods and where to get more sustainable products, etc.

GREENEXT encourages everyone to join and share their sustainable lifestyles through an online campaign, which takes 3 steps:

1\ Publish notes on RED and share good things and places to recycle and regenerate

2\ Tag #GREENEXT 好物/ #GREENEXT去哪儿

3\ Tag @GREENEXT in the notes

By the end of each month, GREENEXT will select 2 winners to be named as GREENEXT Chief Discovery Officers, and each of them will receive an amazing environmentally friendly gift selected by GREENEXT as their winning prize.
