Caudalie Presents 'Clean Beauty White Paper'

French natural skincare brand Caudalie recently held a "Clean Beauty - Perfectly Radiant and Brightening Dark Spots Collection Spring Sharing Session" in Shanghai, launching its white paper on clean beauty and cosmetics, which showcases more than 20 practical and scientific research explorations by the brand. The event aimed to promote the brand's journey towards clean beauty and sustainability to Chinese consumers.

The event also invited Joel Baumgartner, the East Asia Regional Director of the PUR Sustainable Environmental Organization, to share the brand's global tree-planting project, including in Yunnan, China. From joining the 1% For The Planet organization in 2012 until March 2023, Caudalie has planted 10,155,263 trees in more than ten countries worldwide, fulfilling its commitment to using 1% of its profits for sustainable environmental protection and achieving its sustainable goal of planting over 10 million trees globally by 2023.

Caudalie's journey towards clean beauty in the Chinese market aligns with the brand's "ethical cosmetics industry" (Cosm-étique) principle, which is consistent with its global team's commitment to ingredient, formulation, and packaging. This year, Caudalie actively participated in the Tmall Clean Beauty project in China and joined the "Earth Friendly Alliance" as a representative of an international brand for clean skincare. The concept of "Clean Beauty" has become a prominent trend in the skincare industry, with a particular emphasis on environmental sustainability among consumers. For a considerable period of time, Caudalie has been committed to the philosophy of clean beauty, utilizing natural ingredients. Since its inception in 1995, Caudalie has adhered to the philosophy of high efficiency and sustainability. The brand emphasizes the use of natural and pure ingredients, utilizing efficient and safe formula to harness the intelligent energy nurtured by nature.

Formula's Secret

Caudalie is dedicated to reducing the impact on nature in every aspect of our products as a way of giving back to the earth for the treasures of grapes it provides. Caudalie is committed to "Cosm-ethics," which directs their sustainable brand management.The brand has been at the forefront of clean beauty, maintaining a "No list" of prohibited ingredients for many years. The focus is on maximizing the use of natural and eco-friendly ingredients, while eliminating six categories of ingredients, including preservatives, phenoxyethanol, parabens, sulfates, mineral oils, and animal ingredients. In addition, Caudalie has established a "No List" of 73 ingredients that they completely reject.

Eco-friendly Packaging

Caudalie is looking to limit the use of plastic as much as possible, and when it has to use it, the brand gives preference to recycled, recyclable, bio-sourced or lightened materials. Caudalie has chosen to upgrade most of its plastic packaging bottles to glass bottles that are more recyclable, or to recycled PET, which can be recycled and reused. It has also completely eliminated all leaflets in its packaging (equivalent to reducing 23 tons of paper) and spatulas (equivalent to reducing 1.3 tons of plastic) since 2020. All of Caudalie's new product lines launched in China in 2022 use 100% recyclable and reusable plastic bottles and outer packaging paper, striving to achieve the goal of zero waste of resources and leading in the field of sustainable beauty and skincare.

Sustainability Commitments

Caudalie's unwavering dedication to sustainable development is exemplified by its continuous efforts towards environmental conservation. Since 2012, Caudalie has been a member of 1% FOR THE PLANET and donated 1% of its sales to environmental NPOs. Every customer who purchases Caudalie products also contributes to protecting the planet. As of 2022, Caudalie has achieved its goal of planting 10 million trees worldwide. The carbon emissions offset by Caudalie's reforestation efforts over the years are four times its own output.

In 2020, Caudalie launched its "100% Plastic Collect" program, taking an important step towards achieving a zero waste brand. Since 2021, Caudalie has upgraded all its packaging products to 100% recyclable and reusable plastic bottles and eco-friendly packaging, resulting in a reduction of at least 50 tons of plastic and 45% carbon emissions annually.
